Keaton is playing soccer this spring. He absolutely loves it! He wants to go everyday and gets disappointed if it isn't a game day. He has already told me our back yard needs a goal in it. I think we have a sports player on our hands!! :)

The Home Stretch

I have entered my third trimester. My belly is expanding rapidly now. I have started grunting and groaning to get off the couch, out of bed, or just to tie my shoes.

This pregnancy has went fairly smooth so far but the demands on my body are starting to take it's toll. I have had a couple complications arise that I am doing my best to deal with while trying to stick it out as long as possible at work.

My patients at work have enjoyed this journey with me. They have watched me grow and change everyday. They always worry when I will go to lunch or if I am resting enough at home.

The baby is moving a lot. I can tell she is getting stronger by the force of her kicks! I am sure she will be a great soccer player one day! :)

Makenna and I are going shopping again to get some things for the baby. She enjoys helping me pick out clothes. She is sure that everything needs to be either pink or purple. She is really excited for her sister to get here.

Some people say they love being pregnant. I am not particularly fond of it, but I am keeping my eye on the prize of holding this precious little girl in just a few weeks.

A Dinosaur Day For Keaton

With a new baby on the way I cherished every moment of it because I figure we will be pulling teeth to get good pictures again for the next few years...(sigh).

Baby Update

It has been a while since my last post. I need to get better about blogging again. Lots of exciting changes will be happening around here soon!

I am 21 weeks along in my pregnancy. I have been having some pain lately. I called the Dr. this week and he sent me for an ultrasound. They said everything looked fine and our little GIRL is doing ok. He suggested I drink more and rest more to see if that helps with the pain. It has improved some over the past couple of days...yeah!

I am ready to start organizing and making room for baby. Makenna is really excited to help with the shopping of all the little pink outfits and things. I think I am pretty excited too.

On Tuesday, I go for the big ultrasound where they check it all out and make sure she is growing as she should. I look forward to my appointments. It is nice to get to hear the heartbeat and get a sneak peak at her.

I know this is going to be the last baby I carry. I am trying to take it all in this time and not miss a thing.

Tonight we went to Open House for Keaton. He is in Pre-K this year. He goes three days a week. He seems to like school so far but wasn't sure he wanted to go back when a girl threw up in his class this week. Hard to believe Kindergarten is right around the corner for him. He showed us his room, his favorite toys, and some papers he had done that were on display. Papaw and Nana came to check it out too! It was fun.

It isn't because there is nothing to blog about...Makenna has completed another week of art camp, the kids are enjoying every nice day we have in the pool, we have some major construction going on at the house, and have dealt with some family issues. I guess I am just stuck in some kind of funk and haven't quite found my way out yet. Hopefully, sometime soon this will end...

Makenna spent last week participating in Art Camp. She traveled around the world and back in just 4 days. On Sunday we got the opportunity to check out what she had created. She really enjoyed the week and is looking forward to the next one.

We celebrated Makenna's birthday on Saturday. Her birthday was in May but Keaton was sick so the party was postponed.

God Meets Us Where We Are

After a long day at work and an evening with the kids I decided to take a bath tonight. As I got in the tub I felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. My mind was spinning fast about numerous things. It is amazing to me how God meets us where we are...even in the bath tub!! I had some quiet time and some prayer time. I even think a few tears fell into the water. As I was getting out of the bath I didn't feel like the weight was as heavy as when I got in. I was sharing the load with Him.

Friday the 15th was Makenna's 8th birthday. She had a good day at school complete with cupcakes for her classmates. We let her pick where she wanted to go for dinner. She picked Texas Roadhouse (I was so proud...I knew Chuck-E-Cheese was on the tip of her tongue!!). After dinner I made an unexpected stop with Keaton at the doctor's office to find out he has strep throat. We had to cancel the birthday cook-out for today. Makenna was a little upset but we will reschedule it for her later. So, instead of fun family cook-out pictures for this post, just this quick update will have to do for now.

Tonight Monroe Central had a Spring Luau. It was pretty much a carnival with a Hawaiian theme.

They tried to win a goldfish but the balls just wouldn't go in the bowl. :(

A Date With Kids

Friday night we took the kids on a date. We went to Chili's for supper. Then we went to see the Hannah Montana movie. Makenna was in heaven! Then on the way home we made a stop at Jerry's for ice cream. The kids were really good and enjoyed their evening. Even mom and dad had a good time!

Today is Earth Day. I took the chance today to think about what my family is doing to help this planet. We recycle glass, plastic, paper, steel, and aluminum. When we grocery shop we use reusable grocery bags. Tonight, we walked to the cultural center to pick up Makenna from art class instead of driving.

We didn't do anything exciting like plant a tree, but at least it was a conscious thought about how we can help preserve this planet for our grandchildren.

This morning when the kids got up they discovered the Easter Bunny had left a surprise for them.

They looked pretty spiffy in their Easter clothes. Keaton actually liked the tie! (I was afraid it was going to be an issue.)

We went to Aunt Shirley's after church for lunch. The cousins were there too. We had a good visit.

Keaton's favorite part of the day was when Uncle Floyd took them to look at the tractors in the barn. Keaton was in heaven!!

Please pray for my niece Ava. She is the one in the picture sitting on my mom's lap. She and her family are visiting relatives in Phoenix and this morning she had an accident. All the information I have received is that she has a skull fracture and they are transferring her to a hospital where they have a pediatric intensive care unit.

Change

I am someone who does well if I have a routine. I usually roll well with some unexpected bumps along the way but seem to get out of sorts sometimes if my routine gets too far off track.

The place where I work is changing a few things. The bad economy even effects the medical field. There have been rumors that we will shut our clinic down three afternoons a week. We are still waiting to see if that pans out. I have also agreed to shift my schedule a bit. I will be working with different co-workers but doing the same job. I have a few really good friends who I work with now that I will miss dearly. We have helped each other along our "journey". We have been there for each other through the tough times of divorce and health problems. We have also shared in the joy of kids and spent time talking about God and Sunday sermons with each other.

I will be out of my comfort zone for a few days but I know things will be alright. I will get along with everyone and make some new friendships. I just feel like I am losing some friends which makes me sad.

A Visit With Family

Today Stacey's dad (Jay) and his friend (Fran) came to visit from Huntington. We took them to the Chocolate Moose for lunch. They enjoyed the restaurant and we enjoyed the visit. We don't get to see them very often. It was a good day.

My Husband

My husband has been very busy the past couple of weeks. I have been missing him lately and thought I would make a list of all the things I love about Stacey.

-he loves to cook (which is good because I don't like to)

-he listens to me talk about my day at work

-he hugs and kisses me often

-he gets me blankets when I am cold

-he listens to me sing with the radio

-he shares popsicles with the kids

-he lets me warm my hands and feet on him when I am cold

-he loves me unconditionally

-he lets the kids bury him in the sand at the beach so they don't have to bury me

-he holds my hand

-he protects me

-he goes grocery shopping with me

-he checks the math homework (not my strongest subject)

-he helps clean the house

-he mows the yard

-he sacrifices his needs for those of our children

-he takes walks with me

-he cuddles with me

-he takes the kids to practice with him giving me some "me" time

-he works hard to take care of our family

-he is always there when I need him

-when times are tough he sticks with me

-he is helping me raise our children

I love him and am so thankful that he puts up with me! I can't wait to find out what God has planned for us together in the future.

Faith

Being a stay-at-home mom is not an option for me. We need both of our incomes to make our situation work. I only work three days a week which usually works well for us. Yesterday was one of those days I wished I didn't work outside of the home and could be there for my kids.

The school called Stacey and let him know that Makenna was in pain. He called me at work for advice on what to do for her. I wanted to run to her at that moment! I wanted to be there to hug her and help her pain any way I could.

I was at work and just had a good start on a long 12 hour shift. I knew Stacey was taking her medicine and she would be able to get some relief. I did the only thing I could do for Makenna at that moment... I prayed for her and asked God to take some of her pain away. She was still on my mind all day but I had some peace trusting that God would help her through the day.

I learned just how big my faith is. I was able to put one of the most important people in my life in His hands to help and protect. Sometimes my faith doesn't seem big enough or I start to doubt things. I guess when it really counts I do have enough faith to see me through.

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

The Elbow

We took Makenna to Central Indiana Orthopedic Center yesterday where two other doctors looked at her x-rays. They have decided that she has a fracture in her elbow. She has also damaged the calcium deposit on the end of a bone that is used for bone growth.

Today we went and had a splint made for her. She has to keep it on at all times except to bathe. Please continue to pray for Makenna. She is uncomfortable in the splint and the sling is beginning to hurt her neck. We go back again on Monday to have it re-evaluated. She is trying her best to stay caught up on all of her school work since she has missed part of the last two days of school.

Hopefully, the rest of the week will be better!

The Emergency Room

Saturday evening on my way home from work I got a call from Stacey that something was wrong at the elementary school. When I got there he told me Makenna was playing on the see-saw with another girl and fell off when it was up in the air landing on her elbow. I immediately noticed the swelling and knew I was on my way to the hospital with her.

We waited in the waiting room for a couple of hours and then finally got x-rays and a room. The x-rays were very painful for her. At one point, the technician had to ask me if I was alright.

We waited another hour or so in the room and even went back for more x-rays.

Stacey and Keaton came to be with us. Keaton was a good boy while we were waiting.

This is the final result: one badly bruised elbow that may need more x-rays to make sure it isn't broken. It is really swollen today. Please pray for Makenna. She is in a lot of pain and is scared at the thought of more x-rays. I am sure school the next few days will be a challenge for her.

Today is my mom's birthday. Today is also my birthday. Today was supposed to be Keaton's birthday but he decided he wanted to come two weeks early. :)

How Times Have Changed

Tonight I took Makenna to the hymn sing at church. I thought it would be something for us to do together and also a good opportunity to teach her how to read the music in the hymnal. She caught on really quick! In between a song she told me that she likes to sing the songs on the projector screen better. She was amazed to find out that when I was little singing out of the hymnal was all we did...no projector screen. I feel old!

Today was Keaton's 4th birthday. We had some family over this afternoon to help us celebrate. Firetrucks are his favorite thing these days so we went with that for a theme.

I even found firetruck candles! He had fun blowing them out.

Save A Life

Tonight we went to the church for the chicken and noodle dinner. Afterwards, we toured the new youth room. Makenna says she can't wait to be older so she can be in that room. I for one can wait... a very long time... for her to be a teenager! Then, Stacey and I decided to donate blood. I haven't donated in a very long time and seeing the girl a couple people ahead of us pass out cold on the floor made me a bit queasy for a minute. All went well though and we even got t-shirts our kids decided to sleep in tonight.

Art Club

Makenna has been in the after school art club at the Cultural Center for about a month and a half. She is really enjoying the hour a week she gets to do art there. She says Abby is really nice. Makenna has learned about the artists. She comes home and teaches us what colors one artist liked to paint with or that one artist painted while he was sad. This was the painting she did today. It is a self portrait with her pet. I am glad she is enjoying it so much.

On Saturday the kids and I went with Stacey to the winter guard competition in Ft. Wayne. It was Valentine's Day and the girls/parents made goody bags for the kids to enjoy.

It was a little chilly but we went outside for a walk this afternoon. I hope it helped to relieve some "spring fever" the kids have. They love to be outside and can't wait until it warms up a bit. I am ready too.

What Do You Say?

Today at work a patient wanted to talk about death. He is in physical pain. He is tired of fighting. The machine I hook him to three times a week is keeping him alive. He is struggling with the final decision whether this is how he wants to continue on or not. He loves his family and they love him. He is scared. To be honest, I was scared. What do you say? What would God want me to say? What is the RIGHT response?

I have been there before, during, and after death. I have been the nurse on night shift providing "comfort measures". I have been the nurse making the 3am call to the family to say, "you better come now". I have been the nurse who holds a daughter up as she walks in the room to see her mother taking her last few breaths. I have helped the mortician lay a body in the velvet blanket for transport. I understand the process of death.

I couldn't find the right words to say today. I did tell him I would pray for him. I hope as my faith in God grows I will be able to become bolder...then I could have prayed with him today.

Is Your Hut Burning?

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me!" he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground --- it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

Last night, Stacey had his color guard staff over for a mexican dinner. They are a great bunch and are doing a good job with the students at Monroe Central. Makenna and Keaton really enjoy them too. I even got to play with the baby! It was a fun evening.

Leaving for work at 5:00am was a project this morning. I don't have a job where I can be "snowed in" for the day. I was very glad to have a 4x4 vehicle. It took an hour... but I made it!

After work, we went to Nana and Papaw's house to help dig out their driveway.

I stopped shoveling to take this picture of a beautiful sunset. This was the one time all day when I thought all this white stuff was pretty.

I had to work today so Stacey took the kids along with him to the Color Guard competition in Ft. Wayne. Our kids really enjoy being around the "older kids". We never have to search far for a babysitter! The group did great. They won their class and was promoted to the next class. Makenna had a good time too. This was how she met me when I came home from work! Besides Halloween, this is her first experience with make-up. She was also soooo excited to tell me that at the next competition they want to do her hair too. Oh boy...I tried to act excited.

After school today I told the kids that they could go outside and play in the snow. When I came out to take pictures they were standing at the back door fully loaded with snow ready to throw. They had a good time for a while but then got cold. I am hoping some of their excess energy was lost out there.

Having Faith

A few days ago I was talking with someone who was losing a sister to cancer. She was saying that she didn't know how she was going to get her mother through this. Before I even had a second to think about what was going to come out of my mouth I said, "you aren't going to but God will". Since our conversation her sister has passed away. I know that God is taking care of them and helping them through this hard time.

Sometimes my faith isn't always that strong. When I am caught up in a hectic day, kids who won't behave, patients who are very sick at work, or finding time to always give my best in our marriage I often feel alone and overwhelmed. There are times I forget to have faith that God is with me and will help me through everything.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" Philippians 4:13

Daily Devotional

I have decided that I want to find a daily devotional to work through. It is hard for me to set time aside for God in my daily schedule. I hope that if I get into the routine of devotions each day that it would be easier to have time with Him. I know it is already the 4th of January so I am already behind but I figure I could catch up if I need to. The problem is... I don't know what kind I should use. Should I use one on the computer or one on paper that I can write in? Should I use one that covers the whole bible or just different topics on a different day? Any suggestions??

Our Weekend

Every once and a while we "escape" for a bit. This weekend is one of those times. We have spent the weekend at a hotel with Nana, Papaw, and Uncle Wyatt. It has been a good time. The kids have stayed in the pool almost all day. We went out for lunch and met with Aunt Jennifer and the cousins. We tried "Mountain Mike's" for dinner. None of us had eaten there before. It turned out to be a good meal. Now, we have two VERY TIRED kids who will be asleep before their heads hit the pillow!

Since Keaton and I were sick on Christmas we didn't get a chance to celebrate with my parents. We are both feeling a lot better now. Tonight, we went to Nana and Papaw's house for dinner and presents. The kids were excited all day! It was nice to spend the evening with them and everyone enjoyed their gifts. Thank you Nana and Papaw!! :-) We can now say that Christmas is over for us this year.

Looking Backwards For A Minute

So there isn't much time left in 2008 as I write this. A lot has happened to me and my family this year. I endured a cancer scare and had surgery. We sold our house in Gaston. We found a nice house in Farmland. Stacey took the band director position at Monroe Central Schools and resigned from Wes-Del Schools. We found a church where we are comfortable to worship and ask questions. Makenna started the second grade at a new school. Keaton went to pre-school for the first time. The company I work for got bought out by a bigger (hopefully better) company as I am about to complete my third year as a nurse in dialysis. Overall, it has been a good year for our family. We have had our fair share of trials but have made it through to the other side a bit stronger than we started. I hope that 2009 is kind to us and that we grow stronger as a family.
